“Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” is a Facebook Event that has now over 1.9M+ people planning to storm area 51 and “see them aliens”. This event has caught the eye of major news outlets like The New York Times, VICE, New York Post, CNN, and more in just a few weeks. If you don’t know what’s going on, let me break it down for you.
2 weeks ago, Maddy, owner of Facebook Meme Page “Shitposting cause im in shambles”, and Twitch Streamer “SmyleeKun” started a Facebook Event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us”. The event details about a plan to storm area 51 on September 20th in search of extraterrestrial beings with millions of Facebook users attending. On top of that, attendees are advised to “Naruto run” (see GIF below) to “move faster than their bullets”.
With all this growing popularity, the event has caught the government’s attention with the Air Force issuing an official statement:
“[Area 51] is an open training range for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” USAF spokeswoman Laura McAndrews told the Washington Post. “The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”
It’s not often we see a social media prank go viral as quickly as this one did, so we decided to sit down with one of the event creators on our podcast.
